Origin/meaning

The arms were devised in 1895 and re-granted in 1960.

The village grew around the monastery on a small island since the early 13th century. The monastery and the island were owned by the Bishops of Konstanz. The local representative of the bishops (often the abbot, which are all known since 1391) always used a seal with two arms; one with the cross of the monastery and the other with their own arms. This was reflected in the present arms where an abbot and the cross of the monastery are combined.
