Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 29, 2003.

The arms show in the upper part a heron, a typical bird for the region.. Until the middle of the 20th century there was one of the largest heron colonies of Germany in the municipality in the Fischreiherwald (heron forest). The base shows a hering trap, a local way of fishing for herring which was still operational until around 1905. The blue and golden colours are the colours of Schleswig, the blue also represents the waters in the municipality.
