Official blazon
- (1818) Een blaauw gevierendeeld schild, op het eerste en vierde een jonge staande leeuw op het tweede en derde een ster, alles van goud.
- (1844) Een blauw veld met scharlakenroode strepen, het eerste en vierde perk met eenen gulden leeuw, het tweede en derde met eene ster met acht stralen, ook van goud.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 31, 1818 and again on August 16, 1844.
The lion is probably taken from Galmaarden, see there. The star is taken from the arms of the Dupont family , Lords of Tollembeek from 1755 until the end of the 18th century.
The colours are the Dutch national colours, as in 1813 the mayor applied without indicating the colours. The arms were thus granted in the national colours. When the arms were confirmed after the Belgian independence, the colours were not changed.
The blazon from 1844 described the cross as 'red', but the image shows clearly a golden cross, as in the 1818 arms, see below. officially the arms are simply quartered, there thus should be no cross visible.
