Origin/meaning

Until the 15th century the village of Achiet-le-Grand was a possession of the Counts of Horne. In 1496 Marie van Horne married Philippe de Montmorency, who was beheaded in 1568. The village was aqcuired by the Counts of Diesbach-Belleroche, who owned the village until the French Revolution. The arms show the arms of Diesbach-Belleroche, with an escutcheon of the arms of Horne in slightly changed colours. Compare also the arms of Achiet-le-Petit.
