Origin/meaning
The arms were supposedly granted in 1307, but no proof thereof exists. The helmet and mantling were added in 1628 when the arms were again granted by Emperor Ferdinand II.
Mělník was an important imperial city in medieval times and the arms thus show the lion of Bohemia and the Imperial eagle. Whether or not the arms have been granted i 1307, they have not changed since.
