Country: Belgium Province: West-Vlaanderen Incorporated into:
|
Dutch | Van goud, met Sint-Andries kruis van keel. |
English | Or, a saltire gules. |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 24, 1899.
The cross is the arms of the Praet family and estate (compare Moerkerke in Belgium and Mijnsheerenland in the Netherlands), which is part of the present municipality. The arms are already mentioned for the Lords of Praet in the Gelre roll of arms from the late 14th century. The Praet estate later became a possession of many other families, but the arms remained unchanged.
