Portuguese Escudo de prata, cruzeiro de púrpura assente num montijo de negro, movente da ponta e entre uma flor-de-lis de azul, à dextra, e uma espiga de milho de ouro, folhada de verde, à sinistra. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro: “ ATALAIA - MONTIJO “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 17, 1997.

The fleur-de-lis is the symbol of St. Mary, the local patron saint. The cross refers to the local chapel, a typical landmark. The black hill refers to the fact that the village is situated in the highest part of the municipality. The corn cob refers to the agricultural character of the village.
