(1956) Van goud met een leeuw van sabel, gewapend en getongd van keel, houdend in de rechterpoot een dubbele adelaar van sabel, gebekt en gepoot van keel, het schild geplaatst voor een Sint Catherina van Alexandrie staande, met nimbus, steunend met de

rechterhand op een rad en houdend in de linkerhand een palm, alles van zilver.

(1993) In goud een leeuw van sabel, geklauwd en getongd van keel, houdende in de rechtervoorpoot een dubbele adelaar van sabel, gebekt en gepoot van keel. Het schild geplaatst voor een Sint-Catharina van Alexandrië van zilver.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 28, 1956 and again on March 1, 1993.

The village did not have its own seal or arms before 1956. Historically the area belonged to the Ambacht Assenede of Vlaanderen. The arms thus show the arms of Assenede, with St. Catherine, the local patron saint, as supporter.
