Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 6, 1979.

The red field alludes to the sacrifice of the first settlers in the area. The lion holding a fleur-de-lis is derived from the arms of the Alvim family.

The river in the base is the Rio Santo Inácio, that runs through the municipality.

The golden chief represents wealth, and shows a cross with acorns, derived from the arms of the Bulhões family.The supporters symbolise the two main agricultural crops in the municipality, coffee and corn.
