BARWICE

Province: Pomorze Zachodnie
County: Szczecinek

Arms of Barwice

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are canting, a bear (Bär) before a forest (Wald) for the old German name Bärwalde.

The oldest seal of the city dates from the 14th century and already shows the same arm, except that the bear is facing the other side. All later seals show the bear facing left as in the arms above. Often the seals showed the Prussian eagle as a supporter behind and above the shield, but this was not used in official images of the arms itself.
