Origin/meaning

The city was founded in the 16th century in a mining area. The arms were granted on February 16, 1595 by Emperor Rudolf II. The letter A in the arms is from the name of the first owner, Adam Ungned. The crossed hammers symbolize the ore mining around the city.

Literature: Augustin, 1997
