Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
AUERBACH
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Bergstrasse
Incorporated into : 1939 Bensheim
Origin/meaning
The arms were proposed in 1956, but as far as I know never adopted by the council.
The oldest seal of the village dates from 1507 and shows the local patron saint, St. Nicholas. The second seal, known since 1622, shows the same saint, but now as a supporter behind the arms of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. A third seal shows the same composition.
The proposed arms show the lion of Katzenelnbogen and three golden coins for St. Nicholas.
