Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 22, 1973.

The lion is the lion of the Pfalz, as the largest part of the district historically belonged to the Pfalz. The eagle is derived from the arms of the Counts of Leiningen, who rule dthe Northern part of the district for many centuries. The pale with the grapes symbolises the so-called Weinstrasse (wine street) and symbolises the importance of viticulture in the area.
