Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 28, 1956.
This complicated shield is that of the princes of the Tour d'Auvergne and dukes of Bouillon, Albret and Château-Thierry. The first and fourth quarters of the arms show the arms of Tour d'Auvergne, with the canting tower (tour). The second quarter shows the three balls of the oldest Counts, later Dukes, of Bouillon. The third quarter shows the arms of Turenne. The estate of Turenne belonged at first to the House of Beaufort then to that of the Tour d'Auvergne, and was reunited to the crown of France in 1736. The escutcheon in the center combines the gonfalon, the heraldic emblem of Auvergne and that of the duchy of Bouillon.
