Official blazon

(1819) Van rood beladen met een vliegende duif houdende in deszelfs bek een laurier tak.
(1840) Een rood veld, met eene witte duyf van de regte zyde schuyns afvliegende, houdende in haeren bek eenen natuerlyken olyftak.
(1989) Gedeeld 1. gegeerd van twaalf stukken van goud en van lazuur; hartschild: in keel drie schuinkruisjes van goud 2. in zilver drie leeuwen van sinopel, gekroond van goud, geklauwd en getongd van keel; schildhoofd: in goud een vliegende duif van lazuur, gebekt en gepoot van keel, met in de bek een olijftak van sinopel.

Origin/meaning

The old arms were granted on November 10, 1819 and confirmed on December 22, 1840. The present arms were granted on November 21, 1989.

The pigeon is derived from the arms of the Lords of Kerchove, barons of Eksaarde, Lords of Dentergem in the 17th and 18^th century. In the new arms the old arms are shown in the chief. The lower half shows the arms of Wakken and three lions for Markegem and Oeselgem.
