LUBAŃ

Province: Dolny Śląsk
County: Lubań

Coat of arms (crest) of Lubań
Official blazon
Polish blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The current arms were adopted in 2007 and are a simplified version of the historical arms.

According to legend, the first arms were granted on December 17, 1541 by Emperor Ferdinand. There is no existing proof thereof, but it was mentioned in a description of the city from 1719. The arms show a city wall and between the towers the complete arms of the Dukes of Furstenberg, in the 16th century rulers of the city.

The design of the arms, however, is much older. The oldest seal dates from the 14th century and also shows a city wall, but now with the eagle of Brandenburg between the towers. When the city became part of Bohemia in the 14th century, the eagle was replaced by the lion of Bohemia, and thus later by the crossed keys of Furstenberg.

Completely different arms were shown in the 1960s, see below. In the 1990s the historical arms were restored and in 2007 replaced by the current version.
