MOJOKERO

Province : Jawa Timur

Coat of arms (crest) of Mojokerto

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show a canting Mojo tree. The bordure shows the local crops; rice and cotton. I have no information when these arms were granted/adopted. The tree was already used on the colonial arms of the city, see below.

Colonial arms

The arms were officially adopted on August 28, 1929 and changed on August 12, 1930.

Origin/meaning

In zilver een vruchtdragende Modjoboom van natuurlijke kleur, geplant in een grond van sinopel. Het schild gedekt met een gouden kroon van drie bladeren en twee paarlen.

The inital arms showed a mural crown, but that was not accepted by the Dutch Court of Arms at the time. Instead the crown used for all cities was used. The arms were shown in the Dutch Coffee Hag albums in a rather different way, probably as the author did not know how a mojo tree looked like.
