MOJOKERO

Province : Jawa Timur

Mojokerto.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms show a canting Mojo tree. The bordure shows the local crops; rice and cotton. I have no information when these arms were granted/adopted.

Colonial arms
The tree was already used on the oldest arms of the city, adopted on August 28, 1929 and changed on August 12, 1930.

The inital arms showed a mural crown, but that was not accepted by the Dutch Court of Arms at the time. Instead the crown used for all cities was used. The arms were shown in the Dutch Coffee Hag albums in a rather different way, probably as the author did not know how a mojo tree looked like.
