Origin/meaning
The arms were designed in 1970 and approved on October 19 1970. The arms show a chuchubi (Tropical mockingbird, Mimus gilvus), a typical and very vigilant bird on the island of Curaçao.
Initially in 1949 the base applied for arms showeing a three-mast sailing ship on a sea. This proposal was rejected due to the large similarity with the arms of Suriname, then a Dutch colony.
