Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on July 22, 1948.

The lions are taken from the arms of the former district Uslar. The lion is the lion of the Principality of Lüneburg, and the arms of the Welfen dynasty. The two lions represent the two former districts, which historically both were ruled for many centuries by the Welfen dynasty.
