SETE BARRAS

State : São Paulo

Setebarr.jpg

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 10, 1974.

The castle in the first quarter alludes to the first building in the region where passers by would seek protection from the perils of the wild forest of the region and shelter from the heavy rainpour. The seven bendlets sinister or are canting: a bend sinister in Portuguese is called "barra", so, seven bendlets sinister = Sete Barras; the charges of the second quarter reminds also of the legend of the seven bars of gold (also barra in Portuguese) buried near the city and never found.

The supporters show that rice and corn are important agricultural products of the region.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the Latin motto "CORDE TECTOQUE ACCIPIO" (I receive under the roof and into my heart) alluding to the building already mentioned and to the traditional hospitality of the people.
