Origin/meaning

The municipality was created in 1754 by merging the cities Falsterbo and Skanör.

The castle is taken from the Skanör city seal from 1421, and the wavy base appears on a seal from 1608. The herring symbolise that Skanör was the centre of the Scanian herring fisheries during medieval times.
