Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 4, 1975.

Of the former municipalities, only Skanör-Falsterbo used a coat of arms. The fish, reminiscent of the medieval herring fishing periods, are are taken from the Skanör-Falsterbo arms and have been reduces form 5 to 3 in the new coat of arms.

The staircase gable refers to the region's typical historical Hanseatic architecture of castles, churches, etc. Skanör being an important Hanseatic town.

The millstone, which is believed to be the first in Swedish heraldry, symbolizes agriculture in the municipality and the many old mills, such as the stump mill in Skanör, which is considered one of the oldest in the country.
