Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on January 12, 1996.

The lion is the lion of Meissen, as the area belonged for many centuries to the County of Meissen. The linden branch symbolises agriculture and the forests in the district. The wave in the base of the arms symbolises the Elbe river.

Literature : Linder and Olzog, 1996.
