WISSMAR

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Giessen (until 1976 Wetzlar)
Incorporated into : 1977 Wettenberg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Wissmar did not have any historical seals or arms, so the present arms were newly developed and granted in 1957.

The lion is the lion of Nassau, as the Counts of Nassau had large possessions in the town. The oak leaves are a reminder of the large forests and the so-called Markwald, an area around the town.
