Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI). Description: On a dark blue rectangle arced at top and bottom with a yellow 1/8 inch (.32 cm) border, 3 inches (7.82 cm) in height and 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width overall, between a gold eight pointed compass rose surmounted by a small gold disc in sinister chief, a green palm branch bendwise in dexter base; a buff bend bearing a scarlet bendlet couped.

Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI). Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of two demi-spears palewise supporting an annulet divided per pale buff and black voided scarlet, superimposed by a gold spear palewise bearing a gold eight pointed compass rose at center, all between a gold arced palm branch on either side; arced over top is a scarlet scroll doubled scarlet inscribed with “YOUR NAMES” in gold and a scarlet scroll around the bottom inscribed with “SHALL SHINE” in gold.

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Buff and scarlet are the colors associated with US Army Support organizations. Scarlet is also the color of the Meritorious Unit Commendation which was awarded to the unit for Southwest Asia service. Scarlet is also the color of zeal and courage. The scarlet bar or “red stick” echoes the name of the city of Baton Rouge, home of the Brigade. The compass rose symbolizes leadership, guidance, and the ability to deploy worldwide. The gold disc on the star alludes to the hot sun of Southwest Asia; the palm branch, symbol of victory, also refers to Southwest Asia, where the Brigade saw war service. The dark blue contrasting with the shining compass rose and sun represents day and night, around the clock vigilance, Blue also symbolizes loyalty and steadfastness.

Distinctive Unit Insignia: The annulet divided vertically forms two letter “Cs” facing each other which represent the “Command and Control” structure of U.S. combat power. The annulet also signifies a wheel or mobilization and the war cry “Let’s Roll.” The compass rose, symbol of guidance and leadership, also highlights the “SHALL SHINE” part of the motto. The three spears commemorate the unit’s campaign participation credits for service in Southwest Asia. The palm branches, symbols of victory, also refer to Southwest Asia, where the Brigade saw war service. Buff and scarlet are the colors associated with U.S. Army Support organizations. The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 7 March 2006.
