Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted on August 24, 1946.
The blue chief shows the bishop's religious order, the Redemptorists, the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. This is composed of a cross that is placed on a lance and a pole with a sponge on the end These are symbolic of the price that Christ paid for our redemption. These are placed between the abbreviations of the names of Joseph and Mary.
The star refers to St. Mary as Stella Maris (star of the sea) and also refers to the 21st corps of the Belgian army in which the bishop served. The blue field and the base refer to the different islands bound together in the Caribbean Sea.
