(1966) Van sabel met een zilveren leeuw, gekroond, gewapend en getongd van goud met dubbele schuinkruiselings geplaatste staart , het schild getopt met een kroon van vijf fleurons.
(1995) In sabel een dubbelstaartige leeuw van zilver, geklauwd, getongd en gekroond van goud. Het schild getopt met een kroon met vijf fleurons van goud.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 15, 1966 and confirmed on June 6, 1995.

The arms are derived from the arms of the Bournonville family. The family had already many possessions in the area since the Middle Ages. In the 17^th century the Counts of Bournonville were promoted to Princes. The principality of Buggenhout existed until 1793. In 1966 the arms of the Princes were adopted as arms for the municipality.
