The upper right quarter shows the church of "San Cristobal de los Gualagüises", the upper left quarter the lion derived from the Spanish province of León, and the Mexican province of Nuevo Reino de León.
The lower right quarter shows a representation of Martin de Zavala, founder of the town, giving his sword to a woman of the tribe of the Gualagüises. The fourth quarter shows some citrus trees, the main crop in the area and the silhouette of the Sierra Madre mountains, and the Hualahuises river.
The motto shows the official name of the Town: San Cristobal de los Gualagüises and the years of foundation (1646) and the year the arms were granted (1984)
