Origin/meaning

The arms were designed in 1901 or 1906.

The first quarter shows the vessel and arms of Vasco da Gama (the first European ship to enter Table Bay), The second quarter shows a field of French fleur-de-lys, symbolising he Huguenots who settled in the vicinity of Muizenberg.

The lower half indicates the importance of viticultuire and the inescutcheon shows the indigenous Cape Lily.

The supporters are two mermen and the crest shows the Imperial Lion proper guarding the anchor of Good Hope.
