LAWRENCE FREDERIK SCHOTT

Born: July 26, 1907
Deceased: March 11, 1963

Auxiliary Bishop of Harrisburg, 1956-1963; Titular Bishop of Eluza

Arms (crest) of Lawrence Frederik Schott
Official blazon
English Quarterly argent and gules, on a cross nowy or, between in the first quarter a gridiron and in the fourth quarter an eagle displayed contournée, the monogram of Jesus (IHS), of the second. Motto: Diligate alterutum.

Origin/meaning

The quartered shield is taken from the arms of some German Schott family and is used here to symbolise the last name of the bishop.

The gridiron or grill is the symbol of Saint Lawrence, the first baptismal saint of the bishop. The eagle is taken from the arms of some Austrian Hofer family and honours the family name of the mother of the bishop.

The IHS stands for Jesus and refers to the devotion of the bishop to the Blessed Sacrament.
