SOUTH SHIELDS

Incorporated into : 1974 South Tyneside

Arms (crest) of South Shields
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The Borough did not use official arms, but used the shield shown above.

The image and motto on the badge may be related to the town’s role as the location of the first life boat station service. ‘Always ready’ probably refers to the availability of the life boat.

1850 was the year that South Shields was incorporated as a borough with its own charter.
