TIRKŠLIAI
County : Telšiai
Municipality : Mažeikiai
Lithuanian | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 21, 2004.
The charge is related to the shrine in the centre of the town: on three sides of it there are 5 red hearts.
Two local legends exist about that shrine:
- it is built in 1667 by local landlady Vazinskiene for the memory of her son tortured by the Swedes
- it is built by local landlord Vazinskis for the memory of his servant tortured by the Swedes but who did not reveal the hiding place of the landlord's wife Vazinskiene and her 4 children.
Historians say the shrine is built in 1867 for the memory of the uprising in 1863 and of its insurgents.
All together, these hearts symbolize love, courage and fidelity.
