Origin/meaning
The arms were registered in 1974. The arms were first granted to the town of Vetlanda in 1925 and transferred to the new municipality in 1974.
The arms were based in the 1920s on a 'medieval seal' of the 'Kingdom Vithala'. The Kingdom never existed and the seal, which already showed a bend with a ear of an undefined grain, was a forgery probably based on an original medieval seal. Even though the hiestory was fake, the State Herald decided in 1925 to grant the design as new arms for the municipality. The ear was now described as wheat.
