HOPFERAU
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Ostallgäu
Official blazon
(de) Geteilt; oben unter silbernem Schildhaupt in Blau drei zwei zu eins gestellte goldene Kugeln, unten in Gold ein schwarzes, schwarzgehörntes Stierhaupt (Grind) mit heraushängender roter Zunge.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 3, 1986.
The Hopferau estate was created in 1467 and was until the middle of the 19th century in possession of the Lords of Freyberg-Eisenberg zu Hopferau. The upper half of the arms shows the family arms; a divided shield with in the base three golden balls. The lower half of the arms shows a bull's head. This refers to the Lords of Hohenegg, to which the village belonged around 1200 and who used a bull in their arms. It also refers to the agriculture and cattle breeding in the municipality.
