Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on August 14, 1973.
The division line symbolises the many ditches and canals in the municipality, used for draining the moors and for shipping the peat. The windmill symbolises the many windmills in the municipality. The three acorns in the chief are taken from the arms of the district of Aurich.
