ALTREICHENAU (until 1951 Schimmelbach)
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Freyung-Grafenau (until 1973 Wolfstein)
Incorporated into: 1978 Neureichenau
Official blazon
(de) Geteilt in Silber und Rot; vorne auf einem aus drei grünen Quadern gebildeter Steinsockel ein roter Falke, hinten ein weiß/silbernes Kelchglas.
Origin/meaning
The falcon is taken from the arms of the COunts of Salburg, who founded the village. The red and silver also refer to the rule of Austria (1506-1765) and the Diocese of Passau (1765-1803).
The glass refers to the former glass manufacturing in the village. The three bricks refer to the Dreisesselberg mountain, a local landmark.
