FRIEDRICHSHAIN
State : Berlin
Incorporated into : 1920 Berlin
Since 2000 part of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 23, 1993.
The arms show the locally important Oberbaumbrücke, a landmark for the district. The base shows a carp, already taken from the older arms of the district and a symbol for the formerly important fishing in the area. Originally they are the arms of the municipality of Stralau, which became a part of Friedrichshain in 1920.
The arms replaced arms granted in 1987:
These arms shows the Karl-Marx-Allee, the main street in the district, and the bear for Berlin. The street indicates the rebuilding of the city after the destruction in the Second World War.
The 1987 arms on a beer coaster |
Before 1987 the district used the unofficial arms below:
In these arms the upper half shows the arms of Berlin as used in the GDR times, and in the base the fish of Stralau.
