Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
NAUROD
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Wiesbaden (until 1977 Main-Taunus Kreis)
Incorporated into : 1977 Wiesbaden
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 22, 1954.
The arms show the symbol of St. Lawrence, a grill, the patron saint of the town. The oldest known seal of Naurod dates from 1671 and shows the patron saint, holding the grill. In the arms the grill is combined with two axes, symbol for the -Rod part of the name, which is derived from the word Roden, or clearing of forest. The colours are those of the State of Nassau, to which the town belonged until 1803.
