Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1951.

The arms combine elements from the arms of the Counts of Ziegenhain (black/golden field and star), with the cross of the State of Fulda. In 1358 the Count of Ziegenhain granted the Abbot of Fulda partial rights over the village. They jointly granted the city rights to Herchenhain in 1359.
