Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the only known seal of the village, dating from around 1732. The arms are partly canting, Niederrad means 'lowerwheel', the arms thus show the lower half of a wheel. The meaning of the clover leaf is not known. It is a common symbol for an agricultural village.

The colours of the shield are not known. They were shown in 1956 in green and silver.

An older, 17th century, seal of Niederrad shows different arms, a shield with a shortened chevron and a star. The meaning or origin of these arms is not known.
