Origin/meaning
The oldest known seal of the town dates from around 1500 and shows the lion of either the Dukes of Braunschweig, who had acquired the town in 1409, or from the Lords of Homburg, who granted the town rights in the 14th century. Below the lion the town's initial was seen. In the 17th century the city used only a shield with a crowned lion, without the E. In the early 20th century the old arms were restored in the colours of the State of Braunschweig.
Seal from around 1900 |
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
