Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on July 27, 1934.
The lion is derived from the arms of the Counts of Wunstorf-Roden, who in the 12-14th century ruled large parts of the district. The left half is derived from the arms of the Counts of Wölpe, who founded the city of Neustadt in 1200 as the center of their possessions.
