Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 25, 1993.

The base shows a lobster, taken from the seal of Gräfinau from 1685, and symbolises the former importance of fishing in the Ilm river, shown as a wavy bar. The angel is a canting element for Angstedt (the name can be translated as place of angels).
