Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 1, 1966.
The arms show seven plough irons for the seven municipalities in the Samtgemeinde in 1966. Evessen joined the Samtgemeinde in the early 1970s, but the arms were not changed, as the Samtgemeinde was abolished in 1974. The irons also symbolise the agricultural character of the area.
To the Samtgemeinde belonged:
- Dettum
- Eilum
- Evessen
- Gilzum
- Hachum
- Mönchevahlberg
- Volzum
- Weferlingen
