Origin/meaning

The image is derived from the local seal dating from the 18^th century. The colours were added in 1966 when the arms were officially granted. The red and golden colours are derived from the arms of the Counts of Hanau, who ruled the area in the Middle Ages and who granted city rights in 1368.
