Origin/meaning

Krautheim received city rights in 1306 from the Counts of Eberstein. In the 14th century the city was sold to the State of Mainz, to which the city belonged until 1802. The arms and the seals all showed the wheel of Mainz. From 1803-1898 the city used a trefoil in its arms, but the old arms were restored in 1898.
