Origin/meaning

Tettnang was founded in 1280 by Count Hugo of Montfort and received city rights in 1297 from King Adolf of Nassau. The oldest seal dates from the late 14th century and already shows a dog. The origin or meaning of the dog is unknown. Ever since the dog has been used on the seals and arms of the city.
