Origin/meaning

The arms show a lion's head as all municipalities in the Grossen Freien territory, which is not the Sehnde municipality, used a lion in their arms.

The previous arms were granted in 1939.

Wappen von Sehnde/Arms (crest) of Sehnde

The chief shows the lion as used by all municipalities in the Grossen Freien territory. The lower half shows the blade of a spade, originally symbolising agriculture, but now also used as a symbol for the potassium mining in the area. A spade was also used by Henning von Sehnde in the 15th century.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
