Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 13, 1982.

The black cross is the arms of the State of Köln, to which the area belonged from 1250-1803. The red bar is taken from th emedieval Lords of Ütgenbach, who originated in thea rea and where of great local importance. They founded the Ütgenbach Chapel and the Ehrenstein Castle. The family got extinct in 1499.

The base shows the local church tower. A tower has been mentioned on the same place as early as 1180. The church and the tower have been of great importance for the village since.
